Marsha P. Johnson (August 24, 1945 – July 6, 1992) was an outspoken activist, drag queen, and beloved figure in New York’s LGBTQ+ community. A prominent voice during the Stonewall uprising of 1969, Marsha co-founded the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (S.T.A.R.) with Sylvia Rivera, fought tirelessly for trans and queer rights, and later became a passionate AIDS activist with ACT UP. Known as the “Mayor of Christopher Street,” Marsha embodied both resilience and joy, welcoming all who sought safety, community, and liberation.
